Prof. Edward Czerwiński has been working as for 37 years. He is an orthopaedic surgeon specialised in bone and joint diseases. He is the founder and director of Krakowskie Centrum Medyczne, former Head of the Department of Orthopaedics Jagiellonian University Medical College, present Head of the Department of Bone and Joint Diseases Jagiellonian University Medical College. He has been interested in bone and joint diseases for over 32 years. His PhD thesis (1978) and assistant professor dissertation (1994 - A Quantitative Measurement of Changes Appearing under the Influence of Fluoride in Cortical and Trabecular Bone and Their Diagnostic Amplications) were devoted to bone and joint diseases).
Prof. Czerwiński for 3 years worked in several remarkable scientific centres in Great Britain. He is the Member of International Osteoporosis Foundation. He holds international Good Clinical Practice Certificate, International IOF, ISCD Densitometry Lecturer Certificate. He established Krakowskie Centrum Medyczne in order to perform clinical trials. He has conducted 26 clinical trials on osteoporosis (bisphosphonates, SERMs, new medications), osteoarthritis, deep vein thrombosis, analgesics, diabetes.
He is the author of 322 scientific articles published in Poland and abroad. He delivered 270 lectures at Polish and international congresses. For all his professional lifetime he has been performing scientific research on osteoarthritis, orthopaedics and osteoporosis. He is the founder of 4 Polish societies, Chairman of the Executive Board of Polish Osteoarthrology Society, President of Krakow Branch of Polish Foundation of Osteoporosis, as well as the member 16 Polish and international scientific associations, editorial boards of 10 medical journals and scientific committees of 30 congresses (including 9 self-organized in Krakow).
Since 1994 Prof. Czerwiński has been organizing in Krakow Congresses of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis held under the auspices of International Osteoporosis Foundation. Each time the congresses are attended by over 800 participants from 20 different countries. Up till now Prof. Czerwiński has organized 10 congresses. The forthcoming II Central European Congress will take place 24-26.09.2009. Prof. Czerwiński cooperates with many foreign scientific centres.
